WEEKLY BIBLE STUDIES

Men’s Devotional Bible Study and Breakfast

Wednesday morning at 7 am

The group begins with a light breakfast (members take turns hosting).  Rev. Koppitch opens the discussion with insights and questions about the scriptures used for the upcoming Sunday sermon.

Testimony:

Jim Runnels - We are all fellow travelers on a long faith journey and support one another.  I’ll never forget when one of our older members was dying and for our weekly meeting we studied and prayed in his hospice room.  It was a moving experience for him as well as us.  His last words were with the group.

And when I lost my son the group was a source of strength for me.

Our study not only expands my intellectual knowledge of the bible but more importantly, helps me understand how to apply that knowledge to my own life as I struggle to grow more Christ-like.

Thursday Bible Study class

Thursday morning at 10:30-11:30 am

Dr. Koppitch provides historical, literary, and theological insights while reading a book of the bible, verse by verse.  Don’t be scared.  The class includes “Bible beginners” as well as more seasoned students.  A  Princeton divinity school graduate, John brings new perspectives to familiar stories, often translating ancient Greek and Hebrew into modern plain English.  Bring your Bible.  Be prepared for spirited discussions, fun and no tests.

Testimonies:

Ruby Matthews –  I have found that John's personal knowledge, coupled with the resources of several biblical scholars, provides  a broader, deeper understanding  than I have ever had before. Plus I have found fellowship with a group of friends who are striving to learn and enrich their faith through prayerful study.

Anne Spudic – This class is one of the high points of my week – a scholarly understanding of this Bible literature leads me to enter its sacred space and to find its meaning for my life.

Pat Orner – I learned more in John’s class than in the rest of my life put together.  Our class has also become a wonderful support group for each other.  I hate to miss the class for any reason.

Mary Ann Thiel – John is so knowledgeable and goes into great depth.  I am finding there is so much more to the stories than I would have understood by a casual reading on my own.

Barbara Burbank – At one time I started reading the Bible cover to cover.  Then I started in the Bible study and realized I had missed so much!

Patty Cochran – I attend Bible study because I’m 90 years old and find a need to understand ancient history and be ready to accept death and be as ready as possible to move on to another life.  “But I love life and I’d do it again.”
