SUNDAY MORNING CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

Preschool – Elementary Grades

On Sunday mornings, you’ll find kids of all ages learning about God, Jesus, and the bible.  Some will be reading quietly, others will be having a rousing discussions, others will be creating art or music, still others may be acting out a drama based on a bible story.  We incorporate a variety of learning styles and use multiple intelligences to approach the faith journey at Fairview.

These classes use the new and highly acclaimed curriculum, Feasting on the Word.

Preschool (Ages – 5)

Kindergarten – 2nd Grade

3rd Grade – 5th Grade

Middle School class for Grades 6-8.

The Mid School class meets Sunday from 9:45-10:45 am in a room decorated for and by them.  They mix Bible study with discussions about daily life.  Remember life in Middle School?  Each class offers opportunity for study, prayer, service projects, and fellowship.  The class follows the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum, which is based on the scripture lessons read in church that Sunday.

Senior High class for Grades 9-12.

The Senior High class meets Sunday from 9:45-10:45 am.  Along with Bible study there are important discussions about life as a Christian teenager and some less serious high school talk.  With teachers who “get it” guiding them, trying to make sense of scripture and how it applies to their lives is their focus.

Confirmation Class

The Confirmation Class is for students who are in 8th and 9th grade.  It meets Sunday mornings from late January through May.  We strongly believe this is a time for exploration, rather than a series of lectures to learn all of the “right answers.”  All questions are encouraged and treated with respect.  personal faith, the Presbyterian Church, and the Fairview congregation.  We have retreats, special speakers, and discussion.  Each student takes on an independent study project and makes a presentation in May.  It’s less work and more fun than a book report.   If they so desire, students have the opportunity to officially join the church as a member. This class is led by a team of two church members (Spiritual Directors), along with Jennifer Loeb, Director of Christian Growth.

Children’s Chapel Class during the 11:00 am worship

We understand it can be hard to sit quietly during an entire worship service, so we offer a variety of experiences that are developmentally appropriate for children in the congregation.  For instance, we have worship bulletins designed for children, with puzzles and coloring, along with bags of crayons.  Children may sit with their parent(s) or whoever brings them, for the entire service, if you like.  The pastor has a special “Time with Children” before the sermon.   They gather ‘round at the front of the church for a short story or lesson and usually add a few of their own thoughts.  Kids, after all, say the “darndest” things!  Afterwards, they follow their teacher to class for a bible story, crafts, games, and a snack.  Parents can relax and participate in the service.  We recommend Chapel Class for 3 year olds through elementary school aged children.  If your child is having a bad day, feel free to take them into the narthex (by the front door), where there are restrooms and a water fountain.  Ushers are there to assist you too.  Younger children, babies, and toddlers are welcome to play, nap, or eat in the Nursery and can be taken there at any point before or during the service.  We have a fabulous paid caregiver, along with a volunteer who will be happy to watch your child.

Acolyte Program

3rd Grade - High School

We believe young people should be leaders in worship, as well as youth and adults. Being an acolyte is a popular way to participate in an active role in the worship service.  Each Sunday morning, two acolytes light the candles and a third acolyte, (usually the oldest), carries the cross into the 11:00 am worship service. In our training, we teach acolytes the meaning of carrying the "light of Christ" into the service and then taking that light out into the world at the close of worship. Each spring, we hold an Acolyte Festival, honoring everyone who has served, where each acolyte receives a cross representing the number of years served.  The record number of years is currently 8 years and held by Aaron Bode, Mark, Bode, Brendan McAulay, and Mitch Prather.
